Stl Youth Jobs aims to help at-risk youth in the city of Saint Louis secure meaningful summer employment, exposing them to positive adult relationships and providing them with the opportunity to advance their workplace and social skills.
Stl Youth Jobs is an eight-week summer employment program open to youth ages 16-23 living in the Dutchtown, Gravois Park, Tower Grove East, Mark Twain, Penrose, O’Fallon and Baden neighborhoods. The program matches youth with meaningful employment opportunities as well as provides job readiness and financial literacy training.
This program was initiated in response to the steep decline in public funding for summer youth employment and the dire need for positive programming for youth that is exhibited by the high rates of violence and crime in the region.
Stl Youth Jobs will employ up to 500 youth using a strategic program design that draws upon the expertise of existing youth employment programs and civic infrastructure. Intermediaries will be identified to develop and implement the recruitment, hiring process and supervision and training of those chosen.
Data analysis of the program will provide founders with an understanding of how youth employment can positively impact the participants and their communities so that the program can be expanded for greater regional impact in the future.
Every $2,000 received will provide one young person with a summer job as well as with job skills and financial literacy training. To make a donation to Stl Youth Jobs, and a difference in a young person’s life, click here.
